Little Mermaid boots Belle
I was looking for pictures for this entry and found two posters of The Little Mermaid I have never seen before. So pretty!! Aww. Disney makes me happy. The news is, Beauty and the Beast will close on Broadway (July) as the 6th longest running show on the Great White Way to make way for The Little Mermaid in December 2007. Other Disney musicals running now are Tarzan (which isn’t doing well), Lion King (still tops!) and the new Mary Poppins (which is eligible for this year’s Tony Awards for Best Score - congrats Anthony Drewe!!).
I am very interested to see this when it opens. Of course being the sleuth I am at finding things on the internet, I found and listened to the demo for the Little Mermaid Broadway version. There are many new songs and they all do justice and blend well with the original songs. Kudos to Alan Menken. He teams up with Glen Slater (lyrics) this time because the talented and dearly missed Howard Ashman is no longer with us.
