Boys II Men to Madonna

Saturday, July 22nd, 2006

Image_00201_1Image_00202These two very blah pictures do not represent half the excitement of the two concerts I went to. The first was at Madison Square Garden, New York - Madonna’s Confessions Tour. The second was at The Green in New Haven - Boys II Men. Of course, I have to say Madonna’s was spectacular! Her fans are definitely ageing with her so there weren’t many teens present. One thing was clear though, Madonna wasn’t about to let anyone stop her from moving on. About half the songs were from her latest album. She cleverly interspersed them with old favourites which many sang along to. The show had no encores but it was intense and for a 47 year old, Madonna certainly hasn’t lost her spunk.

Boys II Men performed to 20,000 people after a day of rain on the Green. Audiences were happy to sing along to classic hits like "End of the Road" and "I’ll Make Love To You". They also let everyone sample new sounds from an upcoming compilation album of greatest hits. It’s been a great week of concerts!

Disney - Nemo / Enchanted

Image_00192I heard about Finding Nemo the musical when some guy next to me at Tarzan on Broadway started talking about it. I thought how fun it would be to watch it at Disneyworld where it will open in Nov. I later auditioned for both Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyworld Florida. Both panels mentioned I should audition for Finding Nemo. One panel even said he was going to recommend me for it. Soon, there was news about the audition and of course, I went. Out of the hundreds that were seen that day, I got a callback. Out of the fewer people seen the next time, I had another callback. This was the last round. I got to the meet the director himself and had a challenging yet fun-filled audition. I didn’t book the job but I’m encouraged that I came so close.

Image_00190Instead, I booked another Disney job on the movie Enchanted. I’m background (New York tourist) in a scene where Susan Sarandon, who plays the Queen, bursts out of a manhole in the middle of Times Square in pursuit of her son. They come from animated land into real life. I’m now eager to catch it at the movies Nov 2007!

Lingon Berry Bits

Image_00186The past weeks have been quite "the life". I was back in New York for more auditions (Aladdin, Finding Nemo and The Lion King). I also went to my roommate’s art exhibition of her paintings, ate great Korean food with my other roommate and shopped a little at the Manhattan Mall. I also finished watching the entire first season of Desperate Housewives on DVD. It is definitely my favourite series on top of the Aaron Spelling ones now. I highly recommend it! Spelling is recently deceased unfortunately, but he produced some really great TV series like Beverly Hills 90210, Dallas (it’s coming back), Melrose Place (which Desperate Housewives’ Marcia Cross and Doug Savant were in) and many more.

Yesterday I was at IKEA. Did I mention they have a great breakfast specials for 99 cents? I also love their Swedish meatballs with Lingonberry jam. They even have a Lingonberry-Apple sparkler which made it home with me. And Lingonberry soda which I had with lunch!! After that I hopped over to watch Menopause, playing here in New Haven. It’s a musical, well needless to say about… menopause. There was a lady next to me who enlightened me to the fact that I was the only under 50 in the audience. Heh!
