Connected at Christmas

Abigail_2Empty_xmasChristmas was warm and it didn’t snow. I took a train up to cat sit for my friend. It was an empty train both ways! When Abigail was well fed, I returned home and sent holiday greetings to friends and family back in Singapore. Felt great to have caught up with many people again because Christmas wasn’t the same without them although my roomate made it as wonderful as it could have been with great food and company. I achieved a lot this 2 week break from school. Found more rare Disney songs, played Disney’s Kingdom Hearts, wrote more of my animated musical, read my new subscription of Premiere from cover to cover and met up with my brother’s girlfriend who brought nice things from home. Awww.. and then as if to make up for Christmas.. it snowed!

The Trains!!

Empty_1_line_at_72ndTrain_carThe Metro Transport Authority (MTA) strike made world news. Subway and bus services in New York City came to a grating halt. I was sure glad school was over for me. But I had agreed to take care of my friend’s little kitty 40 blocks from where I live, so in some ways I joined the thousands of New Yorkers braving the cold in geting to their destinations. I borrowed the "house bike" and cycled to and fro - 3 days in a row. I realise I would make a very impatient driver. I’m glad the MTA has resumed operations.

Speaking of abandoned operations, I just discovered that there are secret subway lines beneath New York that haven’t been used in ages. I quote this entire text from a website, "One of the more famous stories about Grand Central is that there is a secret entrance to the Waldorf-Astoria hotel from the track level that Franklin Roosevelt used to get from his train to the hotel without being bothered by reporters. This story happens to be true; the entrance was at the end of Track 61, a small spur on the north side of the turnaround. The elevator that once led from this spur into the hotel is now welded shut, however, and the stairway next to the elevator now leads only to the street."

Happy holidays all!
