When things go wrong…

Sunday, July 31st, 2005

My_first_big_saladBoy.. I had some terrible things happen to me in the past two weeks. Most of them happened in one day. I fell asleep the night before without setting my alarm, slept 11 hours through and woke up 30 mins later than I should have and rushed out of the apartment. Thankfully, I managed to croak my assigned song for the day considerably well. Then, I had a major stomach attack and nearly had to sit out of class. Not only that, later on I cut my finger while cutting mushrooms. Among other things that happened this week… I left my $1400 dollar phone at the library and went into panic running back to look for it right before I had a voice lesson. I am so thankful some honest soul returned it. "I believe in karma what you give is what you get returned". The picture above is a salad I made that ended up a little soggy. At least it tasted good. If you only had a taste of what I’ve just been through. Phew!

Social Stage

Sunday, July 10th, 2005

Image_00196You might say I am going through stages of a new life here in New York. In my first semester of study, it was hard to give much social time because I had to adjust and focus my energies on the work I came here to do. It’s just that now, that’s become easier. So I guess in some way, I’m having an easier time (that’s until I move to another apartment!). And I’m discovering more about such things as the little shop around the corner and a better place for a certain type of thing, etc. Nice!

I am also starting to play more on the computer too. Just the other night, I had a blast at a photographer’s party. It really was studio full of new faces and my first attempt at mingling here. And the fact that I was connecting (maybe it was the alcohol) and having a great time at that, made me feel a slight sense of relief. - that picture is me on my way to the party on a bus. Not the best picture of me, but I like it for its sense of journey.

And we should never stop journeying. Not even in light of various terrorist attacks. Fear will only mean they stand victorious. Stay safe, my friends. =)

Semester Startoff

Dsc00621Dsc00594 I’ve been really bad about blogging. But it’s about time and I certainly don’t want to start every blog entry like this! So… what has happened? Lots! I made a quiet trip back to Singapore to spend time with family mostly and it was really did me good because I’m more ready to take on this semester at school. I hope it lasts till the end of the course. I love my teachers. And my classmates are a lot warmer to each other. I think time has opened us up.

Independence Day was great. I spent it playing my favorite computer game, Ultima Online. Over the weekend I also watched Batman Begins. It was generally impressive to me except for some things. Like why did he have to alter his voice as Batman?

My cactus isn’t doing too well. It is dying. And for some reason I’m really attached to it. It must be because I rely on it for emotional support. I did buy it for its "orangeness" to cheer me up each day. But I must keep telling myself it’s just a plant. I’ve dissected plants before.

I took some wonderful pictures in Singapore (attached are pictures of the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay and The Great Singapore Sale on Orchard Road) . I even overheard a group talking about me as I took them, saying, "Why do these people from Hong Kong come from one city to another. It’s basically the same thing." It’s amazing how quick we are to judge. On that note, do catch the film "Crash". It will make you think twice.
