Junkie

Image_00162 Everyone’s sick at school. The change in the weather is affecting people left right center! (That’s a very Singaporean term. Maybe it’s used in the US too. But I miss saying that.)

Anyway, I was at Tower Records browsing through the musicals section more thoroughly and I found myself taking down so many titles that were of interest or that I had not ever heard of. And I’ve heard of at least 150 musicals. I was really excited about Disney’s new musical revue "On the Record". There was also "Mary Poppins", the new London Cast recording with new songs written by Anthony Drewe and George Stiles. There was also a musical called "Striking 12", about the little match girl and well I could go on and on  but I won’t.

On my way back up to my apartment, I noticed someone had left many things lying around; someone was obviously moving out. I grabbed a copy of Shakespeare’s Richard II and the book "Under the Tuscan Sun". I also grabbed a wonderful tin container (see picture) which I immediately used to store my electronic related apparel like wires, cables and adaptors. My day was complete!

Someone recommended Under the Tuscan Sun to me once; she said it transported her to another world (of course she was in SG then and loads of places on earth are like another world). i haven’t tried it but give us a review when you’ve read it! =)

Dude, while King Lear is my favorite play… if there’s one role I want to play more than any other, it would be Richard II !!! Such amazingly, exquisite language, all of it in verse. Among my favorites are…

“I count myself in nothing else so happy
As in a soul remembering my good friends”

“Cover your heads and mock not flesh and blood
With solemn reverence: throw away respect,
    Tradition, form and ceremonious duty,
For you have but mistook me all this while:
I live with bread like you, feel want,
Taste grief, need friends: subjected thus,
How can you say to me, I am a king?”

I could go on, but I’d have to do the whole play! =)

we use Left, Right and Center, too. But it’s more usually in reference to politics! (I’m left of center!)

Wow Cary, I can tell you are passionate about Shakespeare. For me, I still gotta get my finger around it. Although it’s not related to my voice and speech class, my teacher is making us learn Shakespeare. Not a bad thing guess.

And David, I HAVE read the book. Denise Tan introduced it to me in 1999. I read it and fell in love with books like that. You should read “Provence”, “A Year in Provence” and “Toujours Provence” by Peter Mayle. Equally fascinating.
